About

Three rules. Two wiseguys. One stupid solution to a housing problem.

Meet Hank Pitman and Alex Selkirk. They are homeless. Set in present day Manhattan, this scripted, single-camera comedy follows the absurd lives of two 20-somethings who, becoming fed up with the hiked-up cost of living, have vowed to squat – to live without the cost, comfort and convenience of an apartment – until one of them caves and buys a condo.

Blending the dark, understated comedy of VH1’s “Free Radio” with the structured but seemingly impromptu aesthetic of FX’s “Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” Squatters is the wild ride of two best friends whose radical but simple solution to the swelling cost of rent in New York City is to live “on the streets.” What begins as an innocent “what if” evolves into a rigorous competition between friends, and the rules they’ve set are simple: (1) no paying for a room, (2) no bunking with friends, and (3) no leaving Manhattan. It’s Cast Away on a very different island!

At first, both guys seek out a quick fix to their housing dilemma. Hank, who spends his days blogging, riding the local trains for hours at a time and selling his belongings relies on his rugged good looks and frat boy charm to seduce women and “take them back to their place” for the night. Meanwhile, Alex converts his office cubicle into half-decent sleeping quarters with bubble wrap and freshens up in the employee bathroom. However, our heroes soon realize that nightly one-night stands and fax room sleepovers are not long-term solutions. We watch, learn and laugh as our heroes get creative and rediscover the island that they call home.
